Holiday Bread Bakers

 to work on our team scaling, making and baking hand crafted,

artisan breads to be enjoyed all over the country!

What are the requirements and skills needed for this job?


  • 8-10 hours shifts between the hours of 5am–1pm OR 5pm-1am
  • Weekend availability
  • Holiday availability
  • 40 hours (with possibility of some overtime) each week through December 31st 
    (we don't take any extra time off during these months)
  • This position is temporary and is expected to end on December 31st

Essential Job Functions:

  • Scales and hand shapes dough
  • Prepares ingredients used in bread production
  • Sets up work station - setting up boards, pans and other equipment
  • Cleaning bread equipment
  • Loads and unloads bread in the ovens
  • Lives and upholds the Zingerman's Guiding Principles and all of Zingerman's Recipes
  • Treats customers and co-workers with courtesy and respect
  • Works safely around hot ovens, heavy equipment and sharp utensils
  • Works in a clean and organized fashion
  • Follows clearly documented food safety procedures
  • Takes direction from multiple leaders
  • Communicates at a high level within the department and Bakehouse


Physical Demands:

  • Able to lift 50 pounds repeatedly during an 8-10 hour shift
  • Comfortable standing, lifting and bending for duration of an 8-10 hour shift
  • Comfortable with repetitive motion
  • Comfortable working in a warm environment- the bread department is 82 degrees or warmer at all times

Who are we?

Zingerman's Bakehouse is a wholesale bakery, retail shop, and baking school for home bakers. We sell to specialty food stores, cafés and restaurants in southeastern Michigan as well as selling to Zingerman's Mail Order, who ships our baked goods everywhere in the United States. We are dedicated bakers and food lovers committed to making and selling the best breads, pastries and cakes we can imagine. We are real artisan bakers, meaning we use traditional methods and flavorful ingredient to make our food.


Where are we?

Zingerman's Bakehouse is located on the south side of Ann Arbor at 3711 Plaza Drive. While there is a bus stop within walking distance, the Bakehouse is NOT located on AATA bus route.

Who are we hiring?

The bread bakery is looking for a full-time early morning/afternoon holiday bread baker to help us with our busiest time of year.  Shifts are 5am-1pm or 5pm-1am.  Shifts are 8-10 hours and will end by December 31st.  This will be 32-40 hours per week, with some overtime possible.

We are looking for team members who are available to work weekends and possibly holidays. Experience baking or in the food industry is great, but not required. We are looking for individuals who consider themselves active and effective followers. While these positions are temporary, this is a great opportunity to gain experience as well as get your foot into Zingerman's door. Many of our current staff began working temporary positions during the holidays.


What does the job pay?

$11.00-12.50 starting wage, or negotiable based on experience
