Zingerman's Cornman Farms Events in Dexter MI is hiring a Coach to support our Bartenders and Servers!  


Service Coach

Our Bartenders and Servers are responsible for meeting and exceeding the expectations of all guests. They are responsible for the setting up and maintaining of bars and beverage stations and cleaning up and breaking down of bars at the end of events as well as serving amazing food. This is a fast paced position that will involve constant customer interaction and requires the ability to carry large, heavy objects on a continuous basis throughout a shift.  The Service Coach, a year 'round part time role, will oversee the work of servers and bartenders on shift and tend to some administrative duties, like ordering product.

Saturdays are the biggest wedding day of the week and will be booked nearly every week. Additional event staffing will be dependant on many factors and can fall on any day or time of the rest of the week.  Shifts can be as late as 1 AM.

Schedules are posted typically 2 weeks.


Reports to:  Managing Partner(s)

Compensation:  $13.00 and 18.00/hour*

*$13/hour for office work, approx. 5 hours per week; $18/hour for events, 10-30 hours per week, less during off season

Our performance expectations are:

  • Oversees monthly inventory in an accurate and timely manner
  • Communicates best cost of good items or overstocked items to sell with event producers
  • Creates and completes beverage inventory sheets for each event (completed day of)
  • Develops and costs recipes for Cornman Farms beverages (infused waters, flavored lemonades, etc...)
  • Creates weekly produce ordering lists for bar needs and communicates with person ordering
  • Demonstrates daily improvements and integration of lean principles
  • Leads event pre-shifts with bar and service team
  • Maintains service and uniform standards
  • Teaches bartenders how to make cocktails and give great service
  • Coaches front of house staff to excellence
  • Serves as a facilitator for Lean activities, working with Managing Partners to train, communicate, standardize, sustain and facilitate continuous improvement, visual management and waste elimination among front of house staff
  • Builds strong and positive working relationships with other departments, including them in the improvement activities and understanding their needs
  • Directs the work of bartenders and Cornman Farms servers during events, using task boards and visual management tools
  • Ensures all bartender and server SOP's are followed accurately
  • Responsible for accurate timely execution of event details, cleaning bathrooms, dining rooms and public spaces, look & feel, organization and stocking as needed
  • Communicates with Managing Partners and Manager on Duty as needed
  • Ensures the safety of guests and employees alike through enforcement of our systems
  • Follows our service recipes while ensuring compliance with federal, state and local laws as well as all operating procedures, including handling intoxicated guests
  • Assists with developing and communicating training materials and uniform standards
  • Creates special cocktails and drink menus as requested

In addition to our bartender expectations, which are:

  • Sets up and breaks down portable bars and beverage stations at events
  • Pours and serves beers and wines
  • Mixes cocktails
  • Serves drinks and/or food at events
  • Handles monetary transactions as needed
  • Abides by all laws in relation to serving alcohol including ensuring guests are not overserved
  • Keep their workspace clean, organized and sanitized
  • Takes direction from Manager on Duty while working events
  • Meets and exceed all expectations of servicing and/or bartending event
  • Responds quickly to requests from guests, co-workers, supervisors and managers while being accurate, polite and enthusiastic
  • Follows up to ensure guest needs are met and exceeded
  • Maintains a professional image at all times through actions and appearance
  • Conducts all business in accordance with Zingerman's Guiding Principles and Bottom Lines
  • Is timely and accurate in completing all assigned responsibilities
  • Gives exceptional service to all customers at our events
  • Complete training requirements

The Success Patterns for this position are:

  • Has experience working in the foodservice/hospitality industry
  • Has previous bartending experience, preferably in a banquet setting
  • Is TIPS, TAM or ServSafe Alcohol Certified (preferred)
  • Can have a flexible schedule with an ability to work shifts on an on-call basis
  • Able to work late nights
  • Is able to follow directions in the moment, under time pressure, with a smile
  • Can work long shifts that require standing/walking/bending throughout shift
  • Has excellent communication skills
  • Has the ability to handle multiple tasks at one time and stay focused
  • Stays well organized with a strong attention to detail
  • Can safely lift and carry 50 pounds and move product up and down stairs
