Reports to Roadhouse Head Chef with a dotted line to the Catering and Events Manager

Responsible for the culinary experience of all catering and events.


Salary Range:  $38,000-$45,000 annually based on experience


Performance Expectations

Essential Functions

  • Arrives on time for all scheduled shifts at multiple locations
    • Roadhouse, Cornman Farms and other catering venues
  • Writes and manages event prep list
  • Delegates prep and ownership of events where needed
  • Manages all event ordering and production needs
  • Develops new catering and events menu items, under direction of Head Chef and documents recipes and procedures in alignment with the Roadhouse culinary vision
  • Regularly performs recipe testing and cost evaluations on all catering items
  • Ensures that all food meets quality and presentation standards of Zingerman's Roadhouse.
  • Is knowledgeable about Roadhouse menu items.
  • Executes all events according to the specifications and is a positive and active leadership presence during the event.
  • Brings positive energy to all interactions
  • Responsible for continual training of kitchen staff working events.
  • Responsible for designing training material for kitchen staff working events
  • Responsible for disciplinary action with kitchen staff prepping and working events
  • Completes performance appraisals and on-shift coaching for event kitchen staff
  • Responds clearly and timely to all work related emails, phone calls or in person conversations.
  • Works effectively and efficiently with the FOH event management team to prepare and execute all catering and events
  • Follows the principles of Servant Leadership while regularly coaching, training and giving performance reviews for all back of house staff especially those working events and caterings.
  • Completes Training Passport within the stated timeframes and continues to live the Training Compact.
  • Establishes and maintains good communication and a positive working relationship with the Managing Partner, Chef, Catering and Events FOH management team, all back of house and front of house staff.
  • Attends weekly catering meeting, weekly managers meeting, weekly Chef's meeting, weekly all-staff huddle, BOH Huddle and bi-annual event staff meetings.
  • Conducts all business in accordance to Zingerman's Guiding Principles and Bottom Lines.
  • Gives exceptional service to all customers/staff while preparing for events and at events.
  • Follows the three steps to great service and the five steps to handling a customer complaint.
  • Can handle the unexpected with a positive, professional and proactive attitude.
  • Comfortable following established systems or solving problems on the fly, depending on the situation
  • Must be comfortable driving our large and small catering vehicles
  • Other projects and responsibilities as assigned
  • Helping with daily culinary operations
  • Has a valid driver's license and good driving record

Success Patterns

  • Has previous experience in catering preparations and menu planning (2-3 years preferred)
  • Has a reputation for excellent relations with guests, front and back of house staff.
  • Has proven to be a great leader and can effectively work as part of a team.
  • Has food knowledge and seeks out new creative ideas for catering events.
  • Experience with Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets and ChefTec
  • Has worked in a variety of kitchens, including both high-end environments and numbers-oriented chains
  • Has successfully managed labor and food cost budgets and otherwise contributed to the financial success of the organization
  • ServSafe certification preferred
  • Is self-directed and able to work independently, as well as be an integral member of the Roadhouse management team
  • Highly skilled at Math and Costing
  • Highly skilled with time management
