Zingerman's Bakehouse is hiring a Pastry Baker to work on

our team making and baking hand crafted, artisan pastries

to be enjoyed all over the country!

 


What are the requirements and skills needed for this job?

Availability:

  • 8-9 hours shifts between the hours of 5 pm and 1 am

  • Full time availability of 32-40 hours per week

  • Weekend availability

  • Holiday availability

  • Full availability in October, November and December (we don't take any extra time off during these months)

  • Education, baking experience or training in the culinary field of at least 2 years required

  • We are looking for someone who is passionate about baking as a long-term career and someone who PREFERS to work late evenings and nights. This is a 5pm-1am shift and we are looking for someone who can commit to working this shift for the long-term.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Participate on a team of 5-12 bakers in the daily making of a wide variety of pastries including quick breads, laminated croissants, pies, desserts and much more!

  • Prepare recipes for baking including scaling and mixing

  • Portion recipes following weights to the 100th decimal point (ex. 5.62)

  • Using industry standard equipment for sheeting out dough

  • Using a piping bag with various tips

  • Sorting and boxing an average of 2000-3500 pieces of pastries per day

  • Load and unload ovens

  • Treats customers and co-workers with courtesy and respect

  • Work safely around hot ovens, heavy equipment and sharp utensils

  • Work in a clean and organized fashion

  • Follow clearly documented food safety procedures

  • Take direction from multiple leaders

  • Communicate at a high level within the department and Bakehouse

  • Complete detailed training requirements that can take up to 1.5 years

  • Attend and participate in department and business huddles (meetings)

 

Physical Demands:

  • Able to lift 50 pounds repeatedly during an 8 hour shift

  • Comfortable standing, lifting and bending for duration of an 8 hour shift

  • Comfortable with repetitive motion

  • Education, baking experience or training in the culinary field of at least 2 years required

  • Experience in mass production a plus

Who are we?

Zingerman's Bakehouse is a wholesale bakery, retail shop, and baking school for home bakers. We sell to specialty food stores, cafés and restaurants in southeastern Michigan as well as selling to Zingerman's Mail Order, who ships our baked goods everywhere in the United States. We are dedicated bakers and food lovers committed to making and selling the best breads, pastries and cakes we can imagine. We are real artisan bakers, meaning we use traditional methods and flavorful ingredient to make our food.


Where are we?

Zingerman's Bakehouse is located on the south side of Ann Arbor at 3711 Plaza Drive. While there is a bus stop within walking distance, the Bakehouse is NOT located on AATA bus route and this shift will end at a time when the busses are no longer running (althought NightRide is an option!).

 

Who are we hiring?

The Pastry Kitchen is looking for a full time Pastry Evening Baker. Shifts are around 8 hours between 5 pm and 1 am. We are looking for team members who are available to work weekends and holidays. Food industry schooling, training or experience is required. We are looking for individuals who consider themselves active and effective followers.

What does the job pay?

Starting pay is $11-13 per hour, or negotiable based on experience.

What's the hiring process like?
