Zingerman's Bakehouse is hiring Holiday Baking Crew to work on our team scaling, making, baking, and/or packaging hand crafted, artisan pastries to be enjoyed all over the country!

  

Get a $200 bonus if you work the entire holiday season (through last scheduled shift - on or before December 31st)

  • Someone who wants to gain experience making and baking pastries (NO BAKING EXPERIENCE REQUIRED!)

What are the requirements and skills needed for this job?

Availability:

  • 8-10 hours shifts between the hours of either 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. OR 5 p.m. – 3 a.m.
  • Weekend availability
  • Holiday availability
  • Availability to work 32 – 40 now through December 31st (we don't take any extra time off during these months)
  • This position is temporary and is expected to end around December 31st

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Multiple positions available to assist pastry staff in one or more of the following areas:
    • Food prep
    • Scaling ingredients
    • Pastry making
    • Packaging pastries
    • Dishwashing
  • Live and uphold the Zingerman's Guiding Principles and all of Zingerman's Recipes
  • Treats customers and co-workers with courtesy and respect
  • Work safely around hot ovens, heavy equipment and sharp utensils
  • Work in a clean and organized fashion
  • Follow clearly documented food safety procedures
  • Take direction from multiple leaders
  • Communicate at a high level within the department and Bakehouse

 

Physical Demands:

  • Able to lift 50 pounds repeatedly during an 8-10 hour shift
  • Comfortable standing, lifting and bending for duration of an 8-10 hour shift
  • Comfortable with repetitive motion

Who are we?

Zingerman's Bakehouse is a wholesale bakery, retail shop, and baking school for home bakers. We sell to specialty food stores, cafés and restaurants in southeastern Michigan as well as selling to Zingerman's Mail Order, who ships our baked goods everywhere in the United States. We are dedicated bakers and food lovers committed to making and selling the best breads, pastries and cakes we can imagine. We are real artisan bakers, meaning we use traditional methods and flavorful ingredient to make our food.

 

Where are we?

Zingerman's Bakehouse is located on the south side of Ann Arbor at 3711 Plaza Drive. While there is a bus stop within walking distance, the Bakehouse is NOT located on AATA bus route and shifts may occur when busses are not running. (Cabs and NightRide are an option at your own expense.)

Who are we hiring?

The Pastry Kitchen is looking for full time Holiday Baking Crew staff to help us with our busiest (and most fun!) time of the year. We need your help making over 40,000 coffeecakes, 130,000 brownies, 4,000 pans of cinnamon rolls, 8,000 holiday boxes filled with rugelach, hamentaschen, holiday cookies and so much more. Shifts are around 8 hours each day. Day shift hours are between 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. Night shift hours are between 5 p.m. – 3 a.m. We are looking for team members who are available to work weekends and possibly holidays. Experience baking or in the food industry is great, but not required. We are looking for individuals who consider themselves active and effective followers. While these positions are temporary, this is a great opportunity to gain experience as well as get your foot into Zingerman's door. Many of our current staff began working temporary positions during the holidays.

 

What does the job pay?

Temporary Holiday positions pay $11.00 per hour.

What's the hiring process like?

If selected, you may receive a phone interview and an in-person interview on the dates listed below.
